Piperacillin / Tazobactam Tazocin
Piperacillin is an extended spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic of the ureidopenicillin class.
The ureidopenicillins are a group of penicillins which are active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The combination has activity against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens and anaerobes, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Imipenem is an intravenous β-lactam antibiotic
Imipenem belongs to the subgroup of carbapenems.
Imipenem has a broad spectrum of activity against aerobic and anaerobic Gram positive as well as Gram negative bacteria. It is particularly important for its activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the Enterococcus species.
Not active against MRSA
Meropenem is an ultra-broad spectrum injectable antibiotic. A beta-lactam belongs to the subgroup of carbapenem.
it is highly resistant to degradation by beta-lactamases or cephalosporinases
Unlike imipenem, it is stable to dehydropeptidase-1 and can therefore be given without cilastatin.
The spectrum of action includes many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and even some anaerobic bacteria. The overall spectrum is similar to imipenem although meropenem is more active against Enterobacteriaceae and less active against gram-positive bacteria.
